City pushes back against encampment
BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The City of Bellingham is starting to push-back against a homeless encampment that’s surrounded City Hall for more than two months.
Campers found notices posted Tuesday informing them that they must vacate a 25-foot zone around the entire building by this Friday, January 22nd.
The notice says they could be arrested for trespassing if they fail to move, and any personal belongings left in the zone will be confiscated and held for 60 days.
An advocate for the campers says some lawn space would be left outside of the zone but not enough for them to maintain safe distancing.
He says they’re trying to negotiate a solution with the city.
